About the Event

Tennessee Williams was a struggling writer when The Glass Menagerie  premiered in 1944 and launched him on the path to becoming a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright. Set in 1937 St. Louis, the story explores the power of memory as narrator Tom Wingfield opens a door to a past that still haunts him. Trapped in lives of escapist fantasy, aspiring poet Tom, his former Southern belle mother Amanda, and his emotionally and physically disabled sister Laura, are on a tragic course with fate the night that Jim O’Connor, Tom’s casual friend and Laura’s former crush, comes to dinner. Their fragile worlds of illusion will be shattered and their lives forever altered as the conflict between familial responsibility and the desire to escape comes to its memorable climax.
