By Giuseppe Verdi
Friday, April 29, 7:30pm & Sunday, May 1, 3pm, 2011
One of the most beloved operas of all time, La Traviata is a lyrical drama in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi, set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave and based on Alexandre Dumas’ 1848 novel, La Dame aux Camélias. La Traviata is a touchingly beautiful tale of love, sacrifice and tragic death: Violetta, a courtesan to a wealthy baron in 1840s Paris, finds true love outside of society’s moral strictures and pays a heavy price for her heart’s indiscretions. Containing some of Verdi’s most memorable operatic music, the opera leaves an indelible impression on anyone who experiences it. Rogue Opera is presenting this operatic masterpiece in all its splendor with full orchestra, sets, costumes and some of the finest emerging young singing artists from around the country, so make sure to join us for an unforgettable evening of glorious lyric drama.
Sung in the original Italian with English supertitles.
