2010-11 Concert Schedule
Music is a window on world history and cultural traditions. It opens hearts and minds, builds bridges between the past and present, and brings together people of all ages and backgrounds. Music teaches people to listen; helps develop life skills such as teamwork, discipline and leadership; and infuses communities with vitality. The Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon’s dedicated musicians perform classical music for orchestra with skill, enthusiasm, passion and a commitment to excellence.
Founded in 1988, the mission of the YSSO is to provide exceptional performance experiences under the leadership of professional conductors and music coaches and to foster a lifelong appreciation of classical music and the arts. Next year marks the YSSO’s twenty-third season of performances for southern Oregon audiences.
Concert Series performances feature Youth Symphony, Youth Orchestra and Youth Strings. The Youth Symphony and Youth Orchestra include string, brass, woodwind and percussion musicians from throughout the region who present masterful performances of standard orchestral literature and concerti, as well as arrangements for preparatory orchestra. Youth Strings performs special arrangements for young string players. Audiences will be impressed by the technical and interpretive abilities of the musicians, as well as their musical and performance skills.
YSSO Concerto Competition winners will be featured soloists with the Youth Symphony during the concert season.
